Department Battles 2 Holiday Season Fires

On December 20, 2012, at 4:12pm, the department received a call for a house fire at 327 Park Ave. during a snow storm.  The snow storm had brought over 20 inches of heavy, wet snow and was bending down tree limbs with the weight.  A snow covered tree limb had come down on the power lines to the house and yanked the electrical service from the side of the residence causing an electrical short throughout the house.  The basement had heavy fire and smoke that extended up to the first and second floors through void spaces in the balloon frame home.  Having fire on multiple floors challenged the attack crews, but the fire was extinguished quickly.  When the smoke cleared, severe damage in the basement and moderate damage to the living floors was found.  Numerous surrounding departments were called for assistance.  All photos by Matt Weidler.

On December 30, 2012, at 6:44pm, the department was called for another structure fire at N7612 Indian Hills Dr.  On arrival, moderate smoke and flames were showing from the garage area and attic of a ranch style home.  Due to the recent snowfall, crews had some difficulty battling the blaze.  The fire was extinguished with moderate and severe damage to the roof and garage.  No one was injured.  The cause is under investigation.  Assistance was called from Horicon, Burnett, Juneau, and Columbus Fire Departments, Horicon EMS, Dodge Co. Sheriffs Dept., DCERT, and the Dodge County Highway Department.  Photos by Matt Weidler.

EMT's Assist Neighboring Communities

On September 30, 2012, our neighboring City of Waupun had multiple vehicle accidents within their response area.  While the local EMS was helping patients in an accident west of the city, Beaver Dam EMS was called to handle an accident along USH 151 east of the city with mulitple victims and 1 critical patient.  Waupun Fire Department was on scene and had taken care of initial treatment.  Passing nurses and doctors also stopped to help while they waited for EMS to arrive.  The critical patient was transported by Flight for Life helicopter to the UW Hospital in Madison.  We were also assisted by Fox Lake EMS.  All photos are by Doug Raflik PhotographyGreat pics Doug!!
